Educational Value

Cincinnati Youth Choir (formerly Cincinnati Children's Choir) provide the above services through admission into one of the choir's, below. No student is turned away from participating. After-school Educational Programs & Instrument Lessons: Bel Canto Choir - CYC’s advanced touring choir is for singers in grades 6 through 12 with excellent vocal technique and strong sight-singing skills. Singers in this group are willing to commit to rehearsing twice a week, resulting in a prestigious performance and touring schedule. Voci - CYC’s ensemble for girls in grades 10 through 12 and changed/changing male voices. Choir members perform advanced repertoire and is designed for those with excellent vocal technique and reading skills. Con Brio - CYC’s advanced middle school choir for singers in grades 5 through 9. Choir members are using healthy vocal technique, honing music literacy skills, and artistic interpretation skills. Con Brio is recognized as a leader within the CYC program. This group collaborates with choirs from across the region and U.S. and hosts the Queen City Children’s Choir Festival. Combinato - CYC’s upper-intermediate choir for children in grades 4 through 7. Choir members are using healthy vocal techniques, are learning beginning music literacy skills, and are learning to read music in 2-3 parts. Piccolo Coro - Children in grades 1 through 3 who have demonstrated the ability to match pitch are introduced to basic note reading, solfege, good vocal technique and elemental unison and two-part music through choral rehearsals, creative games, and activities. Camps: Sing-A-Bration Choral Camp - All singers in grades 3-9 are invited to attend CYC's Sing-A-Bration Choral Camp, during the summer. Children will experience fun, interactive sessions with highly qualified instructors to develop skills in vocal artistry, choral movement, and musicianship. Queen City Festival - A special choral festival on the beautiful University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music campus. The non-competitive festival will focus on a supportive, sharing environment under the direction of CYC Managing Artistic Director, Robyn Lana, and guest artist/composer, Jim Papoulis. Guest choirs will stay in UC dormitories. For a nominal fee, all costs/meals are included except for transportation to Cincinnati. Field Trips: CYC members have toured Italy, Japan, China, Scandinavia, England, Ireland, Wales, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Canada, and the United States. Currently, choirs are in New York City, invited to sing at the National Youth Festival Chorus, where Robyn Lana will be conducting.
