Educational Value

During our regular school year calendar, our after-school program offers learners the opportunity to access small group tutoring from staff members to help with any academic difficulties. It is also a time that the learners may seek support for any specific concept they may be unclear about during their lessons. The music and instrument components of the after school program are taught by a local music teacher for the learners who are interested. Emmanuel offers a summer S.T.E.A.M. camp that focuses on Math and Language Arts during our morning session and S.T.E.A.M. concepts, activities and extended learning opportunities through onsite and offsite field trips in the afternoon. Our learners are assessed using a computer program, i-Ready. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjust its questions for each student. As a student answers correctly, the questions get more difficult. As a student answers incorrectly, the questions get easier. This allows the i-Ready Diagnostic to identify the strengths and opportunities for growth of each student. Our teachers review the i-Ready scores and individualized tutoring is provided for the learners that may need it in our in school or after school tutoring. Field trips are scheduled during the normal school year and during our summer S.T.E.A.M. camp also. The field trips are an extension of classroom learning for concepts taught and as an opportunity to expose learners to hands-on-activities. The field trips also allow our learners to see professionals actively working in S.T.E.A.M. careers. Our field trips may also be scheduled as on-site extension activities and outside professionals or organizations come in to share or demonstrate an academic concept or component of S.T.E.A.M.
