Educational Value

Camp Whitewood provides experiential and environmental education to school students and through our day camps. We utilize our natural setting as an outdoor classroom and learning space. Youth learn about nature, safe boating, safety in shooting sports, and benefit from making friends while spending time outside. Much of our focus in on the social and emotional learning that we can provide in the outdoor education setting and through positive interactions built into the closeness the students and campers build through learning and living together at camp. As campers age out of the program in their teens, they are encouraged to become youth leaders to help provide recreational and educational opportunities to younger campers. Training for this is provided through county 4-H offices and aligns with the policies of the Ohio State University.
