Educational Value

At its core, Visionaries + Voices is an inclusive arts organization providing creative, professional, and educational opportunities for adults with disabilities. Visionaries + Voices is committed to the creative and professional development of individual artists and the Greater Cincinnati Region as a whole. Our education staff work with 27 teaching artists through V+V’s Teaching Artist Program to develop and prepare lessons for paid teaching opportunities throughout the Greater Cincinnati area and beyond. These opportunities are in house at our Northside location, in public schools, community centers, museums, and many other locations throughout the region. Typically, our V + V teaching artists are bringing original lesson plans to school aged children in 30 minute to 1 hour class sessions. Having a V + V teaching artist as a visual arts instructor is valuable for many reasons, but the most is to expose students to adults with disabilities who are in a position of leadership. For many students, their V + V teacher may be the first adult they meet with a disability. It is important for both neurotypical students and students with disabilities to witness adults with disabilities in their schools and communities, teaching valuable skills through their expertise in art. The education staff and teaching artists at Visionaries + Voices are experienced in adaptive lesson planning for students ranging from grades K-12, to adulthood. Because visual art can be used for expression of feelings, symbols, and stories, it is a perfect vehicle with which to teach students of all ages and abilities.
