Educational Value

L.E.A.D. is a summer program for 3rd through 8th graders to help prepare them for the transition academically and socially to the challenges and rigorous curriculum high school presents. Creatively putting a spin on the word “Lead” we teach and inspire our young leaders to be examples others can follow while our adult leaders organize and direct their paths. L.E.A.D. is an acronym symbolizing four areas students should be sufficient in to exude confidence and readiness in a high school atmosphere: Learning: The goal for each leader participating in L.E.A.D. is to enhance learning to be prepared for the high school curriculum. In order to gain or acquire knowledge through study and experience, leaders must be taught effective techniques to reach said goal. Each leader will be groomed to not only lead themselves, but produce leaders. Enrichment: We strive to make each young leader’s life more meaningful, substantial and rewarding by equipping them with concrete academic and social foundation, as well as the ability to add value to others. Advocacy (Engagement): We seek, occupy, attract and involve our leaders in both classroom and community education. Civic engagement is the pillar that holds the community together. The goal is to address public concerns and promote the quality of the community, thus promoting higher quality of life. Teaching and inspiring our young leaders to take pride in who they are and the community they live in causes a ripple effect of community uplift. Development: We dedicate ourselves to ensure our young leaders are consistently growing and being caused to grow by becoming more mature, advanced and elaborating on the foundation L.E.A.D. provides. Summer Leadership Training The Summer Leadership Training is an important component of this year-long program. Each rising 7th and 8th grader from the Saturday Enrichment Program is eligible, as long as he/she has successfully earned his credits by exemplifying 80% attendance, good grades and conduct, within the program and school community. The summer program focuses on academic retention and acceleration; team building, communication, and problem solving through a wide variety of athletics and social activities. Adding the component of character training and leadership training will teach each young leader to tap into his/her true potential. Leadership Training works to define leadership, build respect, trust and honesty. Students are encouraged to foster teamwork and lay the foundation for a motivated life. After each activity, students participate in both large and small group discussion and reflection. Summer Leadership Training’s curriculum will aide students in reaching learning goals and the progress of each individual leader. Areas of concentration remain the same, featuring Language Arts, Mathematics, Web Design, Entrepreneurship, Test Preparation, and personal development skills. Summer Leadership Training is held from mid-June through the end of July from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
