Educational Value

Budokai Academy of Martial Arts (BAMA) teaches students of all ages and abilities martial arts in a provides a safe, instructive environment. Students at BAMA learn martial arts and self-defense techniques in a structured environment that minimizes the risk of serious injury. BAMA believes that through martial arts, students can align their body, mind, and spirit to become the best version of themselves. Through our training and instruction, students develop a variety of motor skills and movements patterns that develop their body. They also improve their character by learning and applying the values of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. Students also gain personal skills such as discipline, self-respect, confidence, and leadership. Finally, students belong to a world-wide community that fosters courage, humility, knowledge, and strength. Through this community, students will learn about the culture, modern history, and language of the Republic of South Korea as well as other international countries involved in the art. By participating in BAMA's training program, students of all ages can maintain a healthy level of physical activity and fitness, develop strong personal and social skills, have a respect for others, and an appreciation for enjoying physical activity, promoting health, setting goals, overcoming challenges, and interacting with their community. Further, we have many of the same principles as the Ohio Physical Education Academic Content Standards. For example: ● Our program is appropriate for children four years and older. ● We set high expectations for our instructors, all of whom must complete instructor training regularly. We conduct background checks and yearly coach training. ● We believe martial arts promote a healthful lifestyle and balances our increasingly digital world. ● Our program is modeled on decades of training and teaching experience and provides well-articulated benchmarks for progression. Each student can progress through the program at his or her pace, under the helpful supervision of our instructors. ● We incorporate non-physical subject matter into our program, such as character and social behavior development, leadership training, and cross-cultural learning.
