Educational Value

We are passionate about and focus on the following: 1) Improving Quality of Life for people of all ages and walks of life. Connecting people with nature to improve their physical & mental well-being - Studies show that spending time in nature not only offers opportunities for great physical activity, but it also improves creativity and problem-solving, reduces stress and anxiety, and facilitates clarity, reassurance, and a positive emotional perspective. 2) Teaching Environmental Science to K-12 Students & Adults - Beech Creek Gardens excels at educating people of all ages through programs that explore plant and environmental issues and encourage beneficial stewardship of the environment as well as inspire a lasting love of nature. Each year we teach over 2,000 K-12 students through an awesome Environmental Science curriculum school field trip. In addition, we provide a Summer Day Camp for students ages 7-12. This adventure camp focuses on environmental education with hands-on activities and outdoor exploration. 3) Promoting Outdoor Nature Play for Children - In the last two decades, childhood has moved indoors. The average American children spend as few as 4 to 7 minutes in unstructured outdoor play each day, and more than seven hours each day in front of an electronic screen. Research shows that children who play outside are more physically active, more creative, less aggressive, and show better concentration. 4) Inspiring Preservation of Our Future - The future of our natural world relies on our ability to first inspire each generation to love spending time outdoors. A primary goal of Beech Creek Gardens is to educate and inspire people to better their lives by celebrating and protecting the living world around them. 5) Preserving Green Space - now and for Future Generations, access to nature and open space is the foundation to our collective quality of life. Beech Creek Gardens is preserving 181-acres of beautiful woodlands, streams, a pond, and open meadows assuring an important green space for all visitors. Preserving this valuable land provides a healthy habitat for a wide variety of Northeast Ohio wildlife. Protecting our many native species of plants, trees and wildflowers allows them to be enjoyed today and by future generations.
