Educational Value

Kumon is considered to be one of most successful afterschool enrichment programs. With more than 1500 centers spread over 50+ countries, the Kumon provides individualized programs in Mathematics and Reading for children K through 12. The programs are tailored to students' individual needs and capabilities. It encourages students to learn not only Math and English but also fosters other important skills, such as discipline and self-learning that can be applied to any learning. Kumon has proven to be successful in helping students with capabilities at all levels. Through Kumon methodologies, students that are lagging behind their school grade can achieve skills appropriate grade to their grade level. At the same time students that have the capability and discipline have been able to reach high school level skills by their 8th grade. Kumon program uses worksheets to help students to learn. When a child student initially comes to a Kumon center for enrollment, they are first given a test to assess their skill level in math and/or reading. Based on the result of the test, the instructor designs a learning program for the student. The student is assigned sets of worksheets to complete as classwork and homework. Twice a week the student comes to the center and completes the worksheet under the supervision of the instructor and trained assistants. In addition, the student is assigned homework that they complete during the week. Each worksheet takes an incremental small step in teaching the student new skills that build upon skills previously acquired. For a detailed explanation and description of Kumon program please visit the website at www.kumon.com At a personal level, I believe in Kumon methodology. I have been a Kumon parent and seen my children benefit from the program. Before buying the franchise, I worked at the center for over eight years and have contributed to several children's learning journey in Math and Reading.
